Obituary for Daniel Douglas Mercier

Alamosa resident Daniel Douglas Mercier, 65, passed away at the San Luis Valley Health Regional Medical Center in Alamosa July 28, 2016.

Dan was born in Quantico, Virginia to Richard and Louise Stooksbury Mercier. He was raised by his step-father Ronald and his mother Louise since the age of 11. Dan married Rebecca Elvira Martinez-Mercier on February 6, 1986 in Denver, Colorado.

Dan was raised in a military family and attended 14 schools before graduating from the East Gary Edison High School in Lake Station, Indiana. He worked for many years as a Mortgage Broker in Finance and helped many folks throughout the years. He was a great salesman.

Dan enjoyed golfing. He also took up fishing and his favorite place to fish was in his boat at the Rio Grande Reservoir. His love for fishing led to a hobby of ice fishing. Dan was an avid Denver Broncos fan and loved watching them play. He spent many hours over a beer enjoying the company of friends and was loved by all.

Dan is survived by his wife Rebecca Martinez-Mercier of Alamosa; his children Julia (Jay) Mercier-Lords of Greeley and Daniel Mercier, II, of Arvada, CO; his step-mother Gigi Mercier of Las Vegas, NV; his grandchildren Deacon LaBonte of Arvada, CO, Jesse and Kylee Lords, both of Greeley; his brothers and sisters: Diane (Don) Anthony of Indiana, Doris Rossman of California, Kathy Mercier-Cartwright of Kentucky, Carol (Michael) Mercier-Abba of Tennessee, and Robert Fenoglio of Tennessee; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father Richard, his step-father Ronald and his mother Louise.

Cremation was chosen and a Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 12:00-4:00 p.m. at his home, 224 Riverwood Drive, Alamosa, CO 81101 on Monday August 1, 2016.
