Obituary for Clella Crowther Shawcroft

Clella Crowther Shawcroft, 94, died June 4, 2021 at her home in Alamosa surrounded by her family.
Clella was born in Sanford, Colorado on April 4, 1927 to Alma Leroy Crowther and Sarah Ivy Brothers Crowther. She married the love of her life Earl Smith Shawcroft on December 4, 1946 in the Mesa Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They enjoyed 54 years together prior to his death in 2001.

Clella was active in the church and served as a Primary Teacher for many years and helped in Relief Society with many activities. So many enjoyed her rolls that she baked for many different church events and services. In her spare time, she crocheted and quilted, enjoyed watching birds, working on puzzles and reading. She grew up during The Great Depression so she would always make do with what she had and she would never throw anything away. Her high school years were during WWII so she talked about the war often. Clella was Valedictorian of her high school class. She was a very independent and self-sufficient women. Earl and Clella served a mission in the Nashville Tennessee Mission in Elijay, Georga. Clella loved to watch football and the world series. She had a passion for the Civil War. She would always wear earrings. Clella would always say that she was 29 years old. She was homemaker and tried to make it a comfortable home for her family.

Clella is survived by her children Robert Shawcroft of Alamosa; Kathleen Hadley of Hurricane, Utah, Rose Marie (Steve) Hixenbaugh of Reno, NV, Lucy (Kelly) Stone of Colorado Springs, CO, Jacqueline (Michael) Bush of Alamosa, CO and Jeffrey (Wanda) Shawcroft of Alamosa, CO; her brother Quentin Crowther of Sanford, CO and DeLora Fox of Orange County, CA; 25 Grandchildren, 61 Great Grandchildren and 9 Great Great Grandchildren; as well as numerous Nieces, Nephews and Extended Family and Friends.

Clella is preceded in death by her parents Alama Leroy Crowther and Sarah Ivy Brothers Crowther, her husband Earl Smith Shawcroft, her daughter Rebecca Ann Shawcroft, her siblings Willard, Merrill, Elwin, Everet and Norman Crowther.

A Graveside Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 7, 2021 at the Sanford Cemetery.
