Obituary for Carolyn Grace Smith (Poulson)

Carolyn Grace (Poulson) Smith born on October 9, 1943 in Monte Vista, CO passed away peacefully on July 22, 2021 at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO. She was born to Ernest and Minnie (Corfield) Poulson.

Carolyn had a drive to learn and gain all of the schooling she could. From a very young age she loved to read and always had that love. She graduated from Monte Vista High School and went on to Adam’s State College where she earned her Masters Degree in education. She had enough credits to actually earn a doctorate but chose to just bask in the knowledge she earned it with out actually getting. Her first teaching job was with the Monte Vista School District. She was offered a job teaching in Holly, Colorado and accepted it. While in Holly she met the love of her life Donald T. Smith. They were married and sealed together for time and all eternity on March 1, 1974 in the Salt Lake City, Utah temple. Coming into this marriage she became a step mother to Donald’s children Davis and Shawn. In July 1977 a daughter was added to their family. Carolyn loved her family very much and would hang the moon if they asked her to. Her favorite things to do were to spend time with her grandkids and daughter and husband and she would always say, “I love you I. T. P. I. (Infinity to the power of Infinity) for infinity and beyond!

Carolyn was baptized a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when she was just 8 years old. She was baptized on the same day as her mother. She knew that the church was true even when her family was not active. She chose to change that and served in many different callings throughout her lifetime. Every one that met her considered her to be a friend and someone they could confide in. She always had a smile on her face and would greet everyone whether she knew them or not. Carolyn had many talents and hobbies she enjoyed over the years from knitting and crocheting, to painting pictures. She loved to cook on the campfire and try new things.

Carolyn loved her family unconditionally and would do anything in her power to help them. One of her favorite things to do was attend the temple with her husband. She also loved taking her grandchildren to the temple to participate in baptisms. She always insisted on a prayer when things were difficult because she knew our Heavenly Father would help ease those struggles.

Carolyn was proceeded in death by her parents, her only brother Elvin Poulson, and many special aunts and uncles. She is survived by her loving Husband Donald of the family home, her daughter Monica S and son-in-Law Steven Cole of Alamosa and her grandchildren Lindsay Marie Cole, Travis Dean Cole, Jacob Theodore Cole, and Katie Aliece Cole all of Alamosa.
