Carolyn Dohe Skinkle passed away peacefully on November 22, 2020. Carolyn was born on July 25, 1932 in Lincoln, Kansas to William and Katherine Dohe. She grew up helping her parents and her brother, Virgil, farm wheat and raise cattle on their family farm. She attended Kansas State University and graduated with a degree in teaching. After earning her degree, she moved to Denver, Colorado where she enjoyed a 32 year career teaching 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade, and later as a media specialist. She married her wonderful husband, James (Jim) Skinkle, on October 9th, 1981 and later moved with him to the San Luis Valley. She fell in love with the beauty of the valley, from majestic Mt. Blanca which framed their ranch to the wild iris and asparagus that grew around it. She worked alongside Jim, growing and harvesting hay, and raising cattle on the Skinkle Ranch. Carolyn was an active member of Friends of the Fort and for many years she and Jim donated a large flag to grace Fort Garland, and they generously provided scholarships to students attending Adams State College. True to her stylish and fun nature, she was also a member of the Red Hat Club. Carolyn was a devoted daughter and daughter-in-law, and she and Jim cared for their aging parents for 20 years prior to their deaths.

Known affectionately as Cissy to her family, she was funny, generous, smart, eloquent, and fashionable. She was beautiful on the inside and out, and she was an example of grace and kindness for all those who knew her. Above all, Carolyn will be remembered for the joy she brought to her classroom, her friends, her community, and her family.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, William and Katherine Dohe, her brother Virgil Dohe, and her nephew Will Dohe. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 39 years, Jim, by her loving niece and nephew-in-law Emily and Rodney Folz, by their children, Rodney J, Caroline, and Ryan, and by her many friends.

Due to COVID-19, a private family ceremony was held at the Alamosa Cemetery.
