Obituary for Carol Dana Wendt

Carol Dana Lipe Wendt ascended into Heaven with an entourage of special angels on November 12, 2021. She was the first, and only, child born to George and Catherine Lipe on October 26, 1930 (which was appropriately a Sunday) in Oklahoma City. Carol’s character was well-shaped by her adoring parents and grandparents. During her wonderful childhood she was involved in all the right things, with church at the top of the list! Carol was an excellent student and enthusiastic participant in many extracurricular activities. Her father was a prominent attorney and her mother was proprietor of the finest children’s clothing store in Oklahoma! They were “pillars” of the community and joyfully included Carol in the blessed life God had granted them. As a result of her parents’ busy lives, she relished her time at home with only her canine “siblings”--thus beginning her familial attachment to the many “lucky dogs” she loved and housed throughout her life!

Carol graduated from high school in the Nichols Hills suburb of Oklahoma City and went on to graduate from Oklahoma City University with honors. After graduation, she met and married Oklahoma City native Bill Wendt. He was an only child as well. Bill and Carol’s upbringing revealed itself in the high standards they set for their own marriage and family. Bill inherited the Wendt Food Brokerage Company and was the “face of the company” while Carol managed all the inner workings of the office. She was immensely respected by everyone. Providing love and security for the children was Carol’s main focus. Shari was their firstborn and two years later, Bill Jr., completed the Wendt family. They were very involved in church, civic organizations, Shari’s dance classes, young Bill’s Scouting, sports, and caring for their beloved dogs!

Menkhaven Lodge in Conejos Canyon was the family’s annual vacation destination. They were determined to retire in the area and did so in 1993. Carol desired more integration within her new community so she came out of retirement to work several years in the Antonito Visitors Center and many years in the Comptroller’s Office of Conejos County. Coworkers and locals were treated to her kind ways. She took her jobs seriously.

Carol suffered immense sorrow in her life, losing Shari at age 17 to an adverse reaction to asthma medication; losing both parents within a year of Shari’s death; and losing young Bill in his 40’s. She could have chosen to be bitter but she chose to be better. Carol summoned comfort from her Lord and Savior and had an “attitude of gratitude”. Her inner peace and contentment were inspirational. She will be remembered for her generosity to Conejos Canyon Community Chapel, serving as a Sunday School teacher and as the ultimate “Prayer Warrior” to her many friends. If you were blessed enough to be Carol’s friend, you were truly blessed!

Carol was predeceased by both parents, husband Bill Sr., daughter Shari and son Bill Jr. She is survived by granddaughter, Jessica Wendt.

Special recognition and thanks to Veronica Vondrak for her loving devotion and excellent care in Carol’s last years.

Cremation was chosen and a Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at 11:30 am at the Conejos Canyon Community Chapel in Antonito, Colorado.
