Obituary for Brian Henry McLaren

Brian Henry McLaren, (72) passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior, in the early morning of October 4, 2022. Brian was born December 7,1949 in Atlantic Iowa to James ‘Jimmie’ E. McLaren and Lola E. (Bissell) McLaren.

Brian grew up in Cumberland, Iowa where he had many fond memories of the family farm and especially fond memories of the McLaren family annual reunions and summer ball games. Brian graduated from Massena High School in Iowa, where he was a wrestler worth watching out for. He earned his Bachelors of Science in Biology from The Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri and later, Brian earned a degree in Bible Studies at Emmaus Bible College in Dubuque, Iowa.

Brian was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, where he enjoyed using his knowledge in biology to serve as a biochemist technologist from 1972 to 1974.

In 1982, Brian moved to Colorado where he met his wife Delilah, son Simon, and his church family at Calvary Bible Chapel in Alamosa. In Colorado, Brian initially worked as a teacher and DOT flagman. In 1987, he began working for the United States Postal Service (USPS), where he would deliver letters in between playing for the post office city league baseball team. He was to retire from the USPS at the end of this month with 35 years of service as a rural mail carrier. During these years, Brian was given many awards and honors for his record of safety.

One of Brian’s greatest joys was to be out in nature and the mountains especially. A walking companion could always count on Brian to know an interesting fact about the plants and wildlife to be seen. He enjoyed daily walks, marksmanship practice, archery, and talking to the neighbors over the chico hedge or mailbox. His biggest plan for retirement was to visit his children often and as many National Parks with his family as he could.

Brian is preceded in death by his parents, James ‘Jimmie’ E. McLaren and Lola
E. (Bissell) McLaren, His Brother James E. McLaren, His Daughter-In-Law Sonya D. McLaren and His Son Jesse M. McLaren.
