Obituary for Billey Dale "Bill" Garrett
Billey “Bill” Dale Garrett, 73, passed away Tuesday, October 29th at 8pm at his home in Mosca, CO after a short illness. Bill was born and raised in Alamosa, CO the youngest of 3. He is preceded in death by parents George and Grace Garrett, sister Julia and brother Gene.
Bill graduated from Sangre de Cristo Unified in 1964, being active in all sports and clubs offered.
In 1965 he joined the U.S. Army. During his time of service he met Linda Gerba and married her in 1967. He was honorably discharged in 1968 Sergeant Billey D. Garrett.
Bill was married to Linda 52 years. In those 52 years they lived in Hawaii (Schofield Barracks) and Arizona finally settling down in Alamosa where they raised their 4 children. During this time he worked construction until an accident forced him to learn a new trade, in which time he worked for Alamosa TV repairing televisions, VCRs and installing satellite dishes all over the valley.
Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing, arrowhead hunting and woodworking. He could tell you almost anything about the San Luis Valley you would want to know. He loved being outside, walking, enjoying nature and his home.
Bill is survived by his wife Linda, their 4 children - Robert (Kandy) Garrett, Julie (John) Moore, Billy (Anna) Garrett, Susie (John) Mays. 12 grandchildren -Ashley Gutjahr, Amanda (Eddie) Garcia, Cristen, Stephanie, Dale and John Garrett, Michael Moore, Samuel and Brandi Garrett, Kayla (Ricky) Rogers, Robert Chladek, Jacob (Kirsten) Boston. 10 great-grandchildren - Hayden Gutjahr, Caylon, Kassandra, Kenzie, and Emma Garcia, Karlee Garrett, Phoenix and Xander Rogers, Haven Chladek and Beau Boston. Numerous Aunts, Uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bill Garrett was and will always be a man of integrity, his word and a hand shake was all you needed. He always worked hard and did his best to provide for his wife and kids. He could sharpen a knife so that it could shave the fur off a frogs butt. LOL! He was the best husband and dad you could ask for. He will truly be missed and forever loved.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 9, 2019 at the American Legion Post 113, 514 E. 4th St in Alamosa at 11am with full military honors. There will not be a graveside service.
