Obituary for Beverly J. Gibson

Alamosa resident Beverly June Gibson, 85, died July 6, 2022 at the San Luis Care Center in Alamosa.

Beverly was born in Alamosa, Colorado on May 23, 1937, the loving daughter of Charles E. Gibson and Mabel (Bentley) Head Gibson. Beverly was born with Cerebral Palsy and her parents were told that she should be left in the care of the State Hospital because she would never progress. Her parents refused to accept that and took her home to take care of her. Her brothers hauled her in a wagon three blocks to the school in the first grade. A loving teacher took the time to teach Beverly how to walk during recess.

Beverly graduated from Alamosa High School and completed two years at Adams State College. She worked as a Bookkeeper and Accountant for Tom’s Glass, McGuffin’s, San Luis Valley Insurance Agency and another Insurance Agency. She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held callings as a Primary Secretary and Secretary of Sunday School. She loved going to the Temple. She also babysat and had a great gift for taking care of children.

Beverly was a good cook and enjoyed raising her own food in her garden. She cherished the times when she could harvest and can her bounty. She was a diabetic and was militant about her diet and exercise to help her health. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting and sewing.

Beverly is survived by her nieces and nephews Sharon (Syd) Hunter, James (Suzie) Head, Jack Head, Laurier Couture, Cara (Mark) Traverso, Joan Couture, Royce (Dawn) Gibson, Kent (Janelle) Gibson, Laine (Julie) Gibson, Ladora (Steve) Langford, Rodney (Marian) Gibson, Jerry (Michele) Gibson, Maureen (Scott) Larsen, Francie (Lee) Johnson, Patricia Niccoli, Shelly (Barry) Braden, Eric Gibson, Cindy Gibson, Timothy Gibson, Roger Gibson, Jeff Gibson, Susan Gibson, Monica Gibson, and Stuart Gibson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her half-brother Charles Gibson, her brothers Jack Head, Clyde Gibson, Howard Gibson, Dale Gibson, Roy Ralph Gibson; infant sister Bertha Lorraine Gibson; Sister Barbara Head Couture; and her nephew Brian Gibson.

A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2022 at the Alamosa Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 927 Weber St. in Alamosa.
