Obituary for Betty Ellen Barr (Patten)

On Wednesday, August 11, 2021, Betty Ellen (Patten) Barr passed away at age 77.

Betty was born on December 15, 1943 in Monte Vista, Colorado to Floyd William “Bill” Patten and Estella Magruda (Brown) Patten. She married Max Ferrall Barr in the Manti Utah temple on July 1, 1960. They settled in Sanford, Colorado where they raised six children.

Betty worked alongside Max on their dairy farm for many years. While doing so, she also worked for the Sanford School as a bus driver and cafeteria cook for several years. Betty enjoyed making jewelry for a time for Clive and Virginia Edgar. She spent a few years working in the kitchen at Conejos County Hospital. She also worked quite a few summers driving a truck harvesting potatoes.

Betty made friends easily and loved gathering with others, especially quilting with ladies from church. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and doing genealogy. She often commented how important her family was to her. She taught them to work hard and about perseverance.

Betty is survived by her husband, Max Barr of Manassa, CO; her children-Mona (Mike) Richardson of Canyon, TX, Todd (Rhonda) Barr of Manassa, CO, Glenn (Rachel) Barr of Antonito, CO, Monica (Clint) Schulze of Buckeye, AZ, Jessica Barr of Florence, AZ, and Mitchell (Wendi) Barr of Manassa, CO; seventeen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren; her siblings-Marion Wilson of La Jara, CO, Bill (Stephanie) Patten of Woodland Park, CO, Kenneth (Shelley) Patten of Juneau, AK, Patricia Powell of Bayfield, CO and Elaine Harcrow of Bayfield, CO.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Magruda, her grandson, Myles (Glenn) Barr, and great granddaughter, Adelaide(Monica)Maxwell.

A public viewing will be held Sunday, August 15, 2021 at Rogers Family Mortuary in Manassa from 6-8pm. A graveside service will take place on Monday, August 16, 2021 at 11am at the Sanford Cemetery.
