Obituary for Barbara Lee Couture

Alamosa resident Barbara Lee Couture, 85, died March 16, 2013 at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born July 10, 1927 to Heber and Mabel Bentley Head in Farmington, New Mexico.
Barbara enjoyed crocheting, reading and was an avid fisherman regardless of the weather. She loved cooking and was a very good cook. Barbara graduated from the Alamosa High School and was Valedictorian. She worked as a Secretary and an Insurance Agent for many years and most recently worked as an admittance clerk at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center until her retirement.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she was a Stars and Relief Society teacher. In her early years she was a Cub Scouts Den Mother.
Barbara is survived by her children, Laurier Couture of Nevada, Iowa, Cara (Mark) Traverso of Rodeo, California and Joan Couture of Alamosa, Colorado, her grandchildren Lukus (Tiffany) Traverso, Angelique (Stephen) Traverso Parris, Sara Traverso, Ruth Couture, and Jackson Couture; her great-grandson Declan Parris, her brother and sister Jack (Naomi) Head of New Mexico and Beverly Gibson of Alamosa, Colorado, her step-brothers Roy (Dory) Gibson of Utah and Howard Gibson of Colorado.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband Roger Couture, her sister Bertha Lorraine Gibson and her brothers Clyde and Dale Gibson.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, March 22, 2013 from 5:00-8:00 P.M at Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa and from 10:30-11:15 A.M. at the church on Saturday, March 23, 2013. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 11:30 A.M. at the Alamosa Third Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located on Third and Richardson. Interment will follow in the Sanford Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or to the National Kidney Foundation and may be made through the funeral home office.
