Obituary for Anne Elaine McKean (Hepperly)

Anne Elaine McKean, a long-time resident of Alamosa, Colorado, passed away at Evergreen Nursing Home on June 27, 2017 after a lengthy illness. She was born on September 20, 1936 to Asa K. and Marion (Stroud) Hepperly and grew up in Denver with sisters Fran and Jan. For two years she attended Colorado State University.

In 1956 she married Everett McKean. Most of their lives they farmed at Cheyenne Wells and later at Alamosa, Colorado.

In the community she was a 4-H leader for decades and Farmers Union Youth Group leader. Over the years she worked as a substitute teacher, cook in a pre-school and sales associate at JC Penney. After retirement she volunteered at the local hospital helping people reach the different wards. Anne also enjoyed travelling and visited Ireland, London, Paris, Botswana and Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

Anne loved the Lord and served in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Awanas, Bible studies and Church women’s groups. Teaching children brought her great joy. She especially enjoyed singing songs with them and often sang the songs to her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and taking care of her flowers, doing puzzles, and taking train rides.

She is survived by daughters; Susan Mogwera, and Sherry (Rex) Pearson, grandchildren Cory (Rhiannon) Pearson, Jaton (Ascencion) Najera, Jackie and Scott Youngs, Letang and Monei Mogwera plus 5 great grandchildren; Hayden Youngs, Kenneth and Robert Love, Emma Lynn Najera and Skylar Dax Pearson.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Everett McKean, daughter, Cindy Youngs, sons-in-law, Chris Youngs and Ben Mogwera, and sisters, Fran McElravy and Jan Steffensen.

A memorial service will be held Monday, July 3, 2017 at Calvary Bible Chapel. There will be visitation with the family at 10:00 am and the service will follow at 11:00 am.
