Longtime valley resident Anna Fumiko Kunugi, 98, passed away on February 12, 2023. She was born on July 4, 1924 in Las Animas, Colorado to Jinnosuke and Iyono (Nojima) Nishitsuji. She married Jimmie Hajime Kunugi Sr. on October 27, 1945 in Taos, New Mexico. Anna was a member of the Eastern Star and the Monte Vista Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening and loved to fish with her husband and family. She appreciated the beauty of flowers and enjoyed singing and listening to music. Anna always had a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye. She would greet many people with a hug and a kiss.

She is survived by her children, Jim H. (Sharon) Kunugi, Jr. of San Diego, California, Curt Kunugi of Monte Vista, Judy Kunugi of Albuquerque, New Mexico and JoAnn Kunugi of Alamosa, two grandchildren, Stephanie Kunugi (Ryan Chen) and David Kunugi, her siblings, Irene Shimamoto of Chula Vista, California and Bill Nishitsuji of Fullerton, California as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, as well as her siblings, George Nishitsuji, Fred Nishitsuji, Jim Nishitsuji, Roy Nishitsuji, Art Nishitsuji, May Miyazawa and Ida Shioshima.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday February 25, 2023 at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa. A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday February 24, 2023 also at the funeral home. Interment will follow services in the Alamosa Cemetery.
