Angela (Velasquez) Maestas went into the arms of Jesus on September 18, 2020.

Angela was born on February 13, 1972 in Del Norte, Colorado. She was an active member of the New Life Fellowship. Her favorite time was spent with her husband, kids and especially her grandchildren. She cherished her friends as family.

Angela’s calling was teaching children where she fulfilled 26 years passionately. She currently taught at Sargent Elementary where the Sargent staff and community loved and respected her. She was an incredible teacher and friend. Angela’s smile would brighten any room she walked into. Her optimism was contagious. She loved to shop, travel and of course support her Seattle Seahawks.

Angela is survived by her husband Joe, her daughter Devyn (Garett) Carter and Brynley Pacheco, her son Jacob, her parents Louie and Rose Velasquez, her father-in-law Willie Maestas, her brother Lorenzo (Michelle) Velasquez, her sister Leslie (Seth) Pawlik and her brother Brandon (Stacy) Velasquez as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother-in law Lu Maestas, her grandma and grandpa Velasquez, her nephew Mark and her uncle Louis.

A visitation will be held on Thursday September 24th, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Monte Vista. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday September 25th at the Valley Church of the Nazarene in Monte Vista. My heart was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Maestas. She was a wonderful teacher to my Granddaughter at Sargent. Her kindness and professional manner will always be remembered.
Such a loss to her family, friends, coworkers, all the children who came into her life and the San Luis Valley education community.
Rest In Peace.

My heart broke into a million pieces when I heard of Angela’s passing. She was a wonderful person with an infectious smile and giggle. She was a great teacher, who cared for her students. Dear Angela Rest In Peace in the comfort of God’s arms. I will miss you. My deepest and sincerest sympathy to her family. Lupita, Vincent, Alyssa Ortega & Jon Marquez(former student many years ago).
