Monte Vista resident Alfonso Fred Martinez, 80, passed away on April 28, 2023. He was born on May 13, 1942 in Pagosa Springs, Colorado to Fernandez and Crotilde (Perea) Martinez. Alfonso loved his wife with all his heart and soul. He cherished his grandchildren as well. Alfonso enjoyed visits from any of his family and he enjoyed watching his western movies the ID channel. He took a lot of pride in his beautiful yard, flowers and garden. Alfonso will be remembered as a simple man who loved life through-out the ups and downs. He will forever be missed by those that loved and knew him.

Alfonso is survived by his wife of 58 years Nickie Martinez of Monte Vista, his children; Yvette (Arcocino Garcia) Archuleta of Monte Vista, Anthony (Marilyn) Martinez of Longmont, Loreen (Adam) Lobato of Monte Vista, Roddy (Rhonda) Martinez of Center and Gearlene West of Longmont, twenty-one grandchildren, sixty-four great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, his siblings Lonnie Martinez, Cordy Moran as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughters Lisa Martinez and Nancy Martinez, his siblings; John Martinez, Bonnie (Charlotte) Martinez, Joe Martinez, Esther (Ernest) Jiron, Carol Martinez, and brother-in-law Bobby Moran.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday May 4, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista with a Funeral Mass being held at 10:00 am on Friday May 5, 2023 also at the church.
