Obituary for Darlene Gay Williams

Lifetime San Luis Valley Resident Darlene Gay Williams, 85, died June 16, 2020 at her daughter’s home in Antonito, surrounded by family.

Gay was born in Alamosa, Colorado on September 24, 1934 the daughter of Ruth Johnson Richardson and Samuel Glenn Jackson. She married Ferman Newton Williams on her birthday in Manassa, Colorado September 24, 1953. Their marriage was sealed in the Los Angeles Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for all time and eternity in 1963. She served faithfully in many callings in the Church including her service, with Ferman, in the Albuquerque Temple for 8 years.

Gay worked for many years as a Town Clerk for the Town of Manassa. She enjoyed crafts of all kinds. She loved being a wife, mother, “Granny”, great-grandmother (affectionately known as “GG”), and friend to all. Gay also loved music, especially country music and sang in the choir for several years.

She is survived by her husband Ferman Williams of Manassa; her children Brenda (Maury) Smith of Antonito, CO, Michael (Sharon) Williams of Manassa and Gregory (KrisAnna) Williams of La Jara, CO, foster daughter Rosie David of Gallup, NM; 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Gay is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and sisters: Leland Jackson, Glendine Jackson Crowther and Shirley Jackson Lippincott, and her grandson Tristan Williams.

A Visitation will be held from 7:00pm – 9:00pm Friday, June 19, 2020 at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Manassa. A Graveside Service will follow at 1:00pm Saturday, June 20, 2020 at the Manassa-Romeo Cemetery in Manassa.
