Obituary for Benita A Mondragon (Martinez)

Benita A. Mondragon, 91 years old, a lifetime resident of Alamosa, Colorado, passed away on the 24th of October, 2019 at the San Luis Care Center in Alamosa. She was born on December 4, 1927 in Alamosa, Colorado to Juan and Madalena Martinez.

She worked at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center for many years. Her hobbies and interests included cooking, camping, traveling, crocheting, cross-stitch, embroidering, and arts and crafts of numerous themes. Benita’s primary focus and love of her life was her husband Orlando and their children Alex, June, Nancey, Orlinda, Connie and Marilyn.

Benita is survived by her spouse of 73 years, Orlando Mondragon; her daughters June Encinias Fuqua, Nancey Mondragon, Connie Lee and Marilyn Mondragon; as well as 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother Juan and Madalena Martinez; her son Alex Mondragon, granddaughter Kanda Toogood and daughter Orlinda D. Ruybal (Mondragon); her brother’s Tony and Joe Martinez, her sister’s Mary Rodriguez, Anne Luna and Julia Medina.

A Vigil with Recitation of the Rosary will be held 7:00 pm Monday, October 28th at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 also at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. Interment will follow services in the Alamosa Cemetery.
