Dorothy Elevinia  Romero
Lifetime Alamosa resident Dorothy E. Romero, 84, passed away on June 7, 2018. She was born on March 19, 1934 in Alamosa, Colorado to Edwardo and Fidelia Gonzales Suazo. She graduated from Alamosa High School in 1952. Following high school, she went on to work for Hesteds and Woolworths. On August 11, 1954 she married Joseph Frank “Boogie” Romero in Taos, New Mexico. Following her marriage to Boogie, she was a dedicated and loving housewife and spent a lot of her time babysitting local children. She loved to knit, the Broncos, fishing, camping, supporting local high school athletics as well as Adams State University and taking trips with the Alamosa Senior Center. Dorothy treasured time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She found great joy in volunteering in any way she could, especially at the Alamosa Senior Center, at the Thursday night feeds at the American Legion, helping at the 9 News Health Fair since it began, about 20 years ago, her and her husband would take toiletries to the Veterans Administration Primary Care Clinic here in Alamosa through the Alamosa Elk’s Lodge #1297, they would also send care packages to soldiers, both foreign and domestic. She was a member of the Alamosa Presbyterian Church, Past President of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 113, Past President of Veterans of Foreign War Ladies Auxiliary Post 899 and was the Secretary – Treasurer of the Alamosa Spanish Cemetery, board member of the Alamosa Credit Union for 40 years, past parade Grand Marshalls for the Ski Hi Stampede and the Alamosa Veterans Day parade. She was nominated as woman of the year for her volunteer work through the GFWC Woman’s Citizenship Club and honored by her classmates, friends and the community at an appreciation dinner in 2016.

She is survived by her husband Joseph Frank “Boogie” Romero of Alamosa, her children, Frankie Joe “Poncho” Romero, her daughters, Vickie Lee (Scott) Ryblaid of Colorado Springs, Lydia Ann (Kurt) Friese also of Colorado Springs, her grandchildren, Sarah, Eric, Natasha and Ryan, two great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her son Charles Lynn Romero and numerous siblings.
Cremation was selected and a memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday June 14, 2018 at the Alamosa Presbyterian Church. Inurnment will follow services in the Alamosa Cemetery.
